Yahoo! Updating Search
by Frank Jovine on 01/27/2010 in SEO, Yahoo Search
Attention SEO Warlords and Poachers! Have you noticed any changes in Yahoo’s search lately? If not, than you are too consumed by Mother Google and you may miss out on something that could help you and your clients.
From the Yahoo! Blog: The Yahoo! Search engineering teams are rolling out updates to crawling, indexing, and ranking algorithms. Similar to previous updates, you may notice some ranking changes and page shuffling during the process, which we expect to complete over the next few days.
I was reading through the Yahoo! Site Explorer Suggestion Board and I found many issues relating to search, but nothing really pointing a finger at the recent news about the Yahoo search updates, at least not yet.
The last big news relative to search, was that Yahoo! search will soon to be powered by Bing. This has been an ongoing discussion for the last 6 months. It’s not a rumor, it’s a fact!
There are no details to what has been changed and that may be up to us to figure it out. The only advice I would give at this point, is to search the keyword terms in which you rank high on. You should save the position of these keyword terms and compare them each week.
Happy Yahoo! to You!

Rumors have a way of becoming fact every once in a while.
I am somewhat surprised by this news though. I am not sure if it is for better or worse, but in general I have been pretty impressed by Bing.

Zuck,
I think it’s a good thing for Yahoo and Microsoft to start becoming one.

I wouldn’t like that Yahoo and Microsof become one. For blogger i think its better they were separated.

Why would it matter for a blogger? I am finding it hard to understand the benefit of separation.

It’s obvious as Google also changed its ranking algorithm on last update but I don’t know why this update as Bing going to take over its search result. Just wish, this update bring good result for me.

Across the board I am surprised at the amount of traffic that I have seen from Bing!

Susie,
I noticed that my Bing traffic has increased each month.

Not only is Bing traffic increasing but the quality also seems to be better – not only better than Yahoo but Google as well. If only traffic volumes were anywhere near those on Google!

Me too. Bing’s traffic is increasing in recently days, but yahoo’s traffic is double than bing. Still, google is ten times traffic than yahoo. The only problem is google sometimes kicks out my site, and yahoo and bing never did that.

My website seems to rank very well in Yahoo in the US, but not so well in Yahoo UK. As for Bing! It has given a very high page and domain score to the website, but the region is set to “NL”. Any idea how to change this? I want to target the UK (and possibly the US), not the Netherlands.

Bing we rang high for with a fews sites but traffic is still soft. Google the traffic is high and the quality of the traffic is still unmatched. Not sure what Microsoft’s plong term plan is to gain market space.

I have not noticed such changes but I will definitely take a look at what you shared with us here.
