When is the next Google Pagerank Update?

by on 07/01/2010 in Google, SEO, SEO Tools

Whens the next Google Pagerank Update? It has been almost 3 months since the last Google toolbar update (April 3, 2010) and it looks like there’s buzz that it has already happened on June 28. This is not the case, but more of a “glitch” or a “cache refresh” or something other than a PR update.

The next Google Pagerank update should be coming soon or in the next several days. I did notice some odd or should I say strange PR changes where some sites went from a PR4 to PR0 and back to their original Pagerank.

In my opinion – Google could be making some minor changes which are causing some Pagerank changes for some websites and inner pages. There’s some speculation that these minor updates are due to changes with backlinks, but this is only speculation.

Don’t get caught up with Google PR, because the only thing that matters is SERPs (Search Engine Results Page) and not PR. If you are ranking high for keyword terms, this is where most of your traffic from Google is coming from and not PR. Don’t be mistaken, but having a lot of backlinks does provide traffic to your website every time a person clicks on your link that is posted on another website.

Google PageRank Updates 2010

Pagerank update in 2010

  • 03 April 2010
  • 03 June 2010 (minor update)
  • 29 June 2010 (minor update)

This search engine optimization tool checks the PageRank on the mayor Google datacenters. Most times it indicates that Google is in the middle of a PageRank update when the results vary from datacenter to datacenter.

I am predicting that the next Google Toolbar update will occur between July 4 and July 7.

That’s some good news! While a lot of people say they dont care about PR, its always a good indicator of where your site stands.

      David,

Very true that some people dis-credit the value of PR and to me it is a good indicator. I am sure if those same people had a PR6 or higher they would be all for PR.

    Frank,

Yes, that’s how some people are. They sour grape if they can’t achieve it. As for me, I value PR because it has its advantages to it. If you have PR then it means that you are really on the web and that people are linking to you.

  4. Not only PR helps you with SEO but also advertisers get attracted to you and will be wanting to put their link on their site because your blog has a high PageRank.

    That’s an added advantage.

You are so right when saying advertisers look at PR as a score card when advertising. They also hold Alexa in high regard as well.

      Madison,

The update should happen next week some time. Good luck!

I also think that it should happen between somewhere in the first week. I agree with the point that we should not care much about Pagerank , what important is SERP. I have seen many PR1 pages overtaking PR-4-5 pages.

We already seen a Google Page Rank update two days ago with one of our directories, so we think that the update has already been implemented.

Thanks for the informative post! There has been a lot of debate going on about PR and it’s importance in various social networking sites and forums. Many even say PR has become irrelevant. The fact is that PR cannot be ignored, though it does not play an important role in SERPs, still it indicates the Google’s perception towards a site and its importance.

    • Frank Jovine

      Jul 2nd, 2010

      Kavin,

Like I said in an earlier reply, people who feel PR is irrelevant are probably not scoring high marks.

Thank you for the update on the page rank info. I still do not understand the relevance of page rank though to be honest. I am new to this whole thing. I am guessing a higher page rank helps you get indexed on page one of google faster. I really don’t know to be honest, but if its going to help in any way I’m all for it.

Personally, I was a PR freak, and I was checking it all the time. Next, I realized that there are more important things than PR rating.
I was searching some things in google: the first page had PR4 and the second, well, PR0. The third had 3 or something like that.
I wonder, how the PR0 site got there. :)

    • Frank Jovine

      Jul 3rd, 2010

A PR0 can out perform a PR4 if you are ranking well for the keyword phrase the user typed in the search bar.

      • Space Shooter Game

        Jul 6th, 2010

I have researched this issue and this is what I discovered: the PR0 site in question has nearly all of the anchor texts in the back-links with the searched keyword. That kicks it so high. Anchor seems to be extremely important in the ranking.

That would be great if Google can update more often. I would like to see at least monthly updates.

I was just curious is it natural to go from a page rank of n/a to one of 0? I mean is that an actual page rank update or does it happen when google spiders your page and sees that it may have enough content to be indexed?

    • Frank Jovine

      Jul 3rd, 2010

Yes it is as that’s the next level up.

one of my website went from PR5 to N/A last June 3rd update, on June 29th came back to PR5. I think both updates were minor and evaluating links, now let’s wait for the big update, hopefully this week.

    Jul 7th, 2010

I have noticed on my tool bar (SEO Quake) that pages that are N/A go to a 0 with very little back linking and with proper on-site SEO methods. Does PR change in real-time like that from N/A to 0 or does it only happen during an update?

    • Frank Jovine

      Jul 7th, 2010

      Trey,

The toolbar update is not real time, and it only occurs when Google does and update, which is around every 3 months on average.

I think IMO it will happen in the next day or two.

  23. Steve

    Jul 8th, 2010

I know many people find PR to be so important. Then their are others that simply don’ care – and feel its not critical. It is so hard to decide what side of the fence to be on. I do feel it is a good indicator of how important G feels about it. However I have seen sites that look terrible and yet have a good PR (bought there way there). For me i just keep building and adding urls – and content, non stop daily. In my mind, a website needs 5 plus years in age and thousands of unique content pages to be a quality site.

    • Frank Jovine

Google also has a low trust factor when it comes to gambling and adult websites. Just an FYI.

    Frank Jovine,

Yes M8 you are right as this time is for page rank update so it can be done at any time i am saying this because i did some seo work for some of my clients site and they are asking when it google will done the page rank update.

  38. Malik

    Jul 13th, 2010

At any rate the longer it takes the more time there is to get quality backlinks for a site or blog. If it happens in August I just see it as an opportunity to work on seo.

Doesn’t seem to be an update yet….
out of interest how often does google update it’s SERPs?
I’ve had a load of new anchor text links on great sites :) and yet have gone down a few places on one keyword, and stayed the same on the rest – is there an update due?

    • Frank Jovine

      Jul 16th, 2010

      Jules,

You are correct there has been no update yet. On average Google updates the toolbar every 3 months.

    • Frank Jovine

      Bill,

No change yet, but stay tuned for a new article once the major update is underway.

  48. Malik

    Jul 23rd, 2010

alrite everyone lets not get our knickers in a bunch. The page rank will happen when it happens and like Frank said only google knows. Google is not going out of their way to let us know. The harder we worked on our pages the more it will show on the page rank. You all know how hard you worked on your on page and off page factors for seo and there is still time to do so. So we should just enjoy this opportunity to be able to continue working on it to increase our potential page ranks for when it does happen.

  49. Melissa Dawn

    Jul 23rd, 2010

My site used to have a PR2 but now it’s PR0. The SERP hasn’t been affected so I would go with the incoming links every time.

    • Frank Jovine

      Matt,

It could take a few weeks before Google starts to update IBLs. Here’s the operator you should use to check BLs – linkdomain:techjaws.com -site:techjaws.com -site:www.techjaws.com
