Watch TV Shows and Movies LEGALLY Online at Hulu
by RT on 06/23/2008 in Internet
You’ve set your DVR up to record the last episode of the season of “The Office” so that you can go out to a party one night. You go out, live it up, come home and crash.
The next morning, as you recover from your hangover, you stroll into the living room with your blender pitcher full of homemade hangover remedy, plop down on the couch in your bathrobe, and fire up last night’s recording.
You know, if you could find it. D’oh! – your DVR decided you like “Gilmore Girls” better and recorded a re-run instead.
What are you going to do? Relax, Party Shark, Tech Jaws has you covered. Now you can watch hundreds of TV episodes and some major full-length films in “high-quality” streaming video via Hulu.com. Hulu is a joint venture between NBC and Fox and their collection of major cable networks they own to bring recently-aired episodes of their programming through an advertising-sponsored flash video player. The best part of this service, besides being free, is that many episodes just aired this past week!

The cons: the selection is big, but not hugely diverse – there’s more to be added in the future. Also, when they say “High-Quality,” it’s really about YouTube’s average quality. You’ll see the difference when you go to full-screen the video on a 19″ or larger widescreen monitor. There’s significant artifact distortion and other common traits of compressed video shown through a flash-based video player.
Between this and most other major networks’ online streaming videos, you shouldn’t miss another episode of your favorite show.
Do you watch TV when it’s first aired, or do you use a DVR or other alternative medium for time-shifting your shows? Let us know in the comments.
