I find this story absolutely absurd that sex predators now are using a gaming platform to lure in young children. What’s next? I just hope that parents are always monitoring their children whenever they’re online.

A Kentucky man has been accused of convincing an 11-year old girl to send nude photographs of herself to him while the two of them played video games online together. Specifically, they both were Sony PlayStation 3 gamers playing online using the PlayStation Network to play Warhawk sometime last year, media reports indicate.

Anthony Scott O’Shea, 24, allegedly received nude photos of the unnamed girl over a several week period before she began feeling shameful about the incidents. The girl also “performed” for O’Shea via live web camera from her home.

He now faces charges ranging from promotion of child pornography, online solicitation of a minor and sexual performance of a child, according to the Houston Chronicle.

“This is another venue these guys are getting to use now that hasn’t been seen before,” Sgt. Gary Spurger of the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said in a statement. “They’re on PlayStation or Xbox playing online games.”

Its possible O’Shea spoke with the girl about possibly meeting in real life so they could “engage in sexual activity,” though exact details about the topic are unknown. He also “kept pressuring her for more pictures” over the couple of weeks they communicated online with one another.

O’Shea admitted to contacting the girl and receiving images, which he apparently shared with other people online, police authorities indicate. He will now be transported to Houston, Texas, to face the charges.

Predators are using social networks and online video games to target children, which has forced police authorities and the F.B.I. to launch online anti-predator operations.

There are so many social network sites, why not bring back a true love? The gaming fan site once known as DFWorld.com and founded by yours truly, has now put on a new face called DFWorld.info. The intent is to bring back the dedicated fans that truly made DFW a household name, that welcomed many people into a space that promoted friendships and fun.

DFWorld.info just recently launched and it’s going to be about meeting up with old friends and catching up on the last 8 years. We will have many new fans that started to play after the peak years of the Novalogic Delta Force series, and we welcome all to collaborate and have fun as well as foster new ideas.

Are you looking for more than just adding friends to your social network? Come on over and join the fun that once was, and one that will continue. We will delight, amaze and have more fun than we had back in 2000.

I know many of the old school players will eventually find home and we welcome all of you to this new beginning, and hope all of you who have old contacts will invite our old friends.

We have interest in bringing some old sponsors back and offering up some great things. It takes more than one person to make the difference, so if you know some Delta Force players or those who enjoyed what DFWorld once was, we hope you will promote and invite your friends.

I look forward to talking, and possibly meeting many of you.

We will provide many memories from the old days by providing screen shots, Truth Be Told articles, and so much more…

Your friend,

AKA: Franny, Francis, Catch 22

Most of us may have been to a Lan party, playing games all night, eating junk food and drinking. We call them a Geekfest. Hostng a Lan party is a completely different animal. There are a lot of things you have to think about. Here are some things you have to do to have a great party with minimal issues.

Power – running all those computers takes a lot of power. Homes are not designed to support 20 computers running at the same time. If you run all the computers off of one circuit you will surely blow a breaker. Split the power up, run extension cords from different circuits of the house. Put about 3 computers on each circuit, that should balance the power distribution.

Get more food and beverages than you think you will need. Nothing is worse then running out of food or drinks. Ask your friends to bring something. Stick to finger food or sandwiches, and set the food up buffet style. You don’t want people to think that you are going to bring anything to them. Plan some breaks to get a way from the keyboards and eat. Have lots of caffeine on hand if you plan to go into the early morning hours.

Have 2 sessions. Plan a afternoon session so some younger gamers can join in. Then after dinner it can be all adults. It is good to show the kids how a good Lan party is planned.

Have everyone on the hardwire Lan, avoid wireless. Wireless networks can generate more work for you to setup and can add lag to the game.

I try to avoid alcohol. When alcohol is involved, we always seem to get more spills, spills and computer equipment do not mix.

Pick games that everyone owns. Try to keep a couple of copies on hand to install on other players computers that don’t own that game. Some of my favorite games are Starcraft, AOE2 and Battlefield. Startcraft is cheap and runs on almost anything.

Although you shouldn’t need to provide network patch cables and power strips for each gamer, some one always forgets theirs. Always have spares on hand.

If you are planning to run a local game server (ie. Halflife), make sure all the bugs are worked out ahead of time. Test, Test, and Test.

Keep the cables neat and out of the way. Otherwise, someone is bound to trip on them. Consider taping cables down. Bunch groups of them running in the same area together really tight, and put all the slack at either end. Someone tripping on a wire and pulling a monitor off of the table can put a damper on the night.

Have fun! Enjoy yourself.

These tips can make for a great Lan party. I think that tip number 1 is the most important, of course. Blowing a breaker ever 5 minutes kills a Lan party, Trust me.

Enjoy!

The Scoop: Far Cry 2; Genre: first-person shooter; By: Ubisoft Montreal; From: Ubisoft; For: PlayStation 3, Windows, Xbox 360; Rating: Mature

Watch the Trailer

From the Far Cry 2 web site: Far Cry® 2, the next-generation first-person shooter from Ubisoft, will take you deep into the most beautiful but also most hostile environments in the world: Africa! More than just a visual and technological achievement, Far Cry® 2, the true sequel to the award-winning PC game, will provide you with an unprecedented gaming experience.

Caught between two rival factions in war-torn Africa, you are sent to take out “The Jackal,” a mysterious character who has rekindled the conflict between the warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives. In order to fulfill your mission you will have to play the factions against each other, identify and exploit your their weaknesses, and neutralize their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.

The downside is you will need a super computer to run this game at peak performance.

A different development team is behind the wheel for this sequel. They put in an amazing amount of detail into the game.
