Hey Frank, this sounds great, does it replace programs like Kaspersky and Advanced System Care?
Frank Jovine
Apr 20th, 2010
Jonathan,
Not at all as this checks for more types of threats in addition to viruses. It’s a great program and I was pleased with how it performed.

So, this is in addition to those other programs?
If so, is there any conflict between them?

Jonathan,
Good question. I ran this program with Microsoft Security Essentials and there were no issues at all.

Hey Frank, this is a followup. Got the tool (won it from you bro) and there is no conflict with my other programs. After a 2 hour scan it found 99 tracking cookies and 1 ugly rouge file that was working undercover. Very cool, thank you my friend.

Frank,
Is the free version of SuperAntiSpyware a better product than say Spybot – Search & Destroy? What about CCleaner?

Randy,
All products are great for what they are intended to do. The products you listed perform well for spyware and system maintenance. I really like SAS for its removal of the toughest threats out there and the performance.

Used this when you first told me about it, it’s essential to have! It’s caught alot of stuff, I also used it on Tim’s machine, but lets just say, it was way to infected for me to spend to much time on.
Needs to make sure young one’s stay off myspace!

I have more then good experience with superantispyware. I am not experienced with virus removal and couple of weeks ago I had a nasty virus which almost made me reinstall whole Windows again. I have tried with Avira, Avast, Norton. All of them would register a threat but could not remove it. Some people suggested running anti virus in safe mode and then cleaning registry but I did not know how to do it.
Virus .exe file would stop making problem when I delete it manually but it would come back after restart.
I found recommendation for Superantispyware on some forums and decided to try the free verson. Threat was gone in couple of minutes and I did not have to deal with safe mode or registry cleaning.

Tried this program myself, I found it clumsy at best.
I’d just stick to some random AV software and Windows defender, I really fail to understand how people still get viruses on Windows 7 and vista, haven’t got any in 4 years without counting Vista beta.

Joe,
This program is far from clumsy even my mom gets it. You should consider yourself lucky that you have been virus free for 4 years.

Frank,
Do you have any experience with how SAS compares to MalwareBytes? I’ve used MalwareBytes to clean up some messy situations that things like Norton and Trend Micro could not resolve.
One downside of MalwareBytes is that it can be slow, with full scans taking well over an hour depending on the horsepower of the computer and the amount of data on the system.
What is scanning time like with SuperAntiSpyware?
Frank Jovine
May 3rd, 2010
Mike,
I have used both and I switched to SAS for a few reasons.
1. Speed of scanning
2. Uses little resources
3. Very effective
I do like both, but SAS a little more.

Frank,
Thanks for the info. I’m going to give SAS a try and see how it works out. The slow speed of MalwareBytes is a problem. Especially with larger hard drives and the growing amount of data that people are storing.
You can never have too many tools for removing the many nasty things inhabit the Online World these days.

Mike,
So true – “You can never have too many tools.” Let me know what you think about SAS.
