Skyfire 0.8.5 Beta Rocks

When surfing around the internet on my cell phone I use the Skyfire browser. The Skyfire team has just released a new version 0.8.5 Beta. Normally, I don’t recommend Betas for anything more than testing, but this is a little different. So far, this browser is the best browser I have seen on the mobile platform. When you upgrade or install the new version you will enjoy improved data streaming capabilities and more reliable connectivity.

The new Skyfire upgrade also has an integrated Google Search functionality. You can not only search from the Superbar on your home screen, but also surf through Google image and video results with fewer clicks. On the mobile platform Skyfire supports VGA displays.  Skyfire also supports other popular devices, including  HTC Touch Diamond, Diamond Pro, HTC/ATT Fuze, and Nokia’s Symbian (see a full list at the Skyfire Website).

See the upgrade link on the Skyfire start page or visit the Skyfire Website.

I went the “Text me the link” method of installing, but it just sent me a link to the download page.  I had to download the CAB file, but with 3G it only took about a minute and the upgrade went smoothly. The new version of Skyfire does seem to be faster and the Flash video playback looked a little smoother. For a Beta, this is a great release.
