How to Get More Traffic with Google Trends

by on 07/10/2009 in Google

Bloggers in general, well always, love sharing information with their friends and visitors. The information we share is what we love to write about. My greatest reward is when my friends comment positively about what I write. If you’re a blogger and you do not care about traffic, than it’s the same as talking to yourself, yes, you are strange. Blogging is a form of creative writing and expression from authors who have knowledge about the subject matter.

google-trendsWhat if you could capitalize on the hottest trends at this very moment? You can, just by visiting Google Trends to see what’s hot in the news and what others are searching for. I am not suggesting that you should write about what others are searching for everyday, but using some of the search phrases in your own article can leverage some needed traffic.

You should write about what you know to avoid being called out on a subject you are not familiar with. All you need to do is visit http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends and see what search terms you may be able to use that can bring you more traffic. Try not to shoot for number one, but maybe take a search term in the top 20. For example, I write about technology and for this day July 10th, there are no search terms that I would write about, tomorrow is another day.

You need to know when to leverage Google Trends and when to walk away, I walked away today. If there are search phrases that are in my niche, I will use a few keywords based on the search term in my tags as well as in my article. Do not forget to bold those keywords or phrases in your blog article.

If you write about health and exercise, than I would have at least two sentences on Tour De France and Lance Armstrong. Notice I made both phrases bold. You should also include them in your tags at least once, if not twice. I have both in my tags listed once.

Let me know your opinion on this traffic driving tip.

    Jonathan,

Try it a few times and see how your traffic increases.

Using the same technique is also effective in domaining. Since pretty much every generic domain of value has been registered, snapping up domains on new products, trends etc. is where the pennies are.

Domains like this could be gold one day: http://www.twittersearchoptimization.com/

      David,

Either I am buzzed, or I have no idea what your are trying to convey.

Domainers use similar latest trend aggregators to snap up domain names for emerging terms. Stuff like this:

Either knowing that they will be worth a lot or hoping that they might be one day. Like in the case of twittersearchoptimization.com.

Would be quite useful if Apple forgot to snap up domains for their latest widgets :P

          David,

You are good. They do that often and I have seen it first hand on Godaddy.

That’s true, Frank. To cleverly use the info we obtained from Google Trends could help, also, may I suggest Twitter hot search/trend as well? However, it’s important to not ‘trying-too-hard’, for example, to have ‘emma watson underwear photos’ (no.2 of Google Trends today) to be put within a techie blog is simply out of place.

      Ching,

I use Twitter, Digg, Reddit, but Google Trends can help as well.

It will be good to look at “consistently searched” terms that appeared many times over a period of time in the Google Trends Top 100 list, something like this and this
