Happy Internet Day
by Frank Jovine on 10/28/2008 in Internet
This is the day the Internet was invented. We should all be grateful for what has made a major impact on our world and the way we live. The Internet Era is now 39 years old and will out live everything known to mankind.
Internet day doesn’t come with gifts like some of the more popular holidays, but hey it’s our world and we can be creative. As a tribute to all Programmers, we give you the following gifts, treats, and your own mascot:
- Gifts: Gadgets, Hardware, and Software
- Treats: Chocolate seems to be every programmer’s favorite snack
- Mascot: The Monkey. For generations the monkey has been always held at such high esteem in the Programming World.
October 29th is established as Internet Day. People can celebrate the creation of the most widely used tool for business, pleasure, information, and porno. We all appreciate the Internet, so why not take one measly day to commemorate the internet!
How it all began:
On a cold war kind of day, in swinging 1969, work began on the ARPAnet, grandfather to the Internet. Designed as a computer version of the nuclear bomb shelter, ARPAnet protected the flow of information between military installations by creating a network of geographically separated computers that could exchange information via a newly developed protocol (rule for how computers interact) called NCP (Network Control Protocol).
