touchtermThere have been more than a couple of times when I have needed to log into a customers server and make a quick change. No need to run to a computer just pull out the iPhone and use TouchTerm.

TouchTerm provides a great, simple solution for anyone that requires secure, remote access on their iPhone or iPod Touch. TouchTerm is a complete and fully-featured SSH terminal application, with an intuitive interface that includes:

  • Complete server, connection, and password management.
  • RSA/DSA Key-based authentication and public key distribution via e-mail.
  • Rock-solid SSH implementation based on OpenSSL and OpenSSH.
  • Wi-Fi and EDGE/3G support: access and administer your servers from anywhere.
  • VT100 Terminal Emulation: Use top, screen, emacs, vi — virtually any console application.
  • Landscape mode; Full-screen Mode; Configurable UI transparency, font size and color.
  • A polished, intuitive, iPhone-standard interface.

TouchTerm is powered internally by the industry-standard OpenSSH and OpenSSL open-source libraries: this means that it’s fast, reliable, and will work with virtually any SSH-capable server.

google-mobile1Search safely with voice search from google.com.

Google built a sophisticated platform for text-to-speech and speech recognition using data from GOOG-411 and we can already some of its applications in Mobile Google Apps, and this updated iPhone app. You simply start the app, then speak clearly into the mic something like “Sushi”. The app. will check your location and give you Sushi restaurants in the area. Then you can tap the number and make your reservation. It has helped me out a couple of times when driving in areas I don’t know. Check it out.

These are a few of my favorite apps for the iPhone. You can also use them for work, which makes your phone a write off, if it isn’t already. All the apps are free or a have a version that is free.
