Google Search Just Got Better with Instant
by Frank Jovine on 09/08/2010 in Google, SEO
For some, it may take time getting use to, but for me, I like the change. Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type. This new change will improve search results and performance.
This change will reduce the time it takes to enter a search term. Before Google Instant, the typical searcher took more than 9 seconds to enter a search term according to Google.
In the example below I was searching for Aquarium in Chicago. As you can see, it only took 2 letters to show me what I was looking for. This is pretty neat and what a time saver.
To turn off Google Instant – Click on the “instant is on” to the right of the search box.
Benefits of Google Instant
Faster Searches: With its predictable search you will see results before you finish typing in your search term. Google Instant can save 2-5 seconds per search.
Smarter Predictions: Even when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, predictions help guide your search. The top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need.
Instant Results: Start typing and results appear right before your eyes. Until now, you had to type a full search term, hit return, and hope for the right results. Now results appear instantly as you type, helping you see where you’re headed, every step of the way.
I know some companies will love Google Instant and here’s just a couple of examples. If you type the letter (S), it shows Sears as the first choice. If you type the letter (W), it shows Walmart as the third choice.

Hah – I guess then we’ll all be trying to figure out how to get our various blogs and niche sites to the top of the INSTANT search results. Potential customers might not even know they need us until they see our category pop up as a suggestion!

Yes it is very useful for bloggers. This mechanism is very easy, helpful and time saving. I used it and am very happy with this. When we start typing in the search box, the results are displayed according to the letters and the results vary with the keywords automatically. Awesome mechanism. Thanks to Google and thanks for the update.

Have just been seeing, and reading about this “Google Instant” in the last few days myself. Just noticed it here on Google this evening, and wondering what the rel purpose if this new feature is. I mean really… “took more than 9 seconds to enter a search term according to Google”, common now.

I really like the Google instant when I’m searching for keywords or just exploring the web. It’s fast and the keywords you want to search appear right before your eyes even if the words are not completely typed on the search box.
