Google Pagerank Update July 26 Minor
by Frank Jovine on 07/26/2010 in Google, SEO
It looks like a few sites and some inner pages had some Pagerank fluctuations, but nothing major so far. In the last couple of days it seems the Googlebots are on steroids. I have noticed many bots on the site just gobbling up content. This could be a precursor of the Google Pagerank major update coming.
If you’re seeing some PR fluctuation that’s not exactly to your liking, don’t worry, it’s more than likely a little Google dance and nothing more.
You may have seen some sites report a Pagerank update today and labeled it as major, but that’s far from the truth.
I do believe that the major PR update will occur during the first week of August, but only Big G knows when, so this is my guess. In the meantime, keep on posting good content and your hard work will eventually pay off!
No need to pull your hair out yet, give Google a little more time.

It’s probably a update to Googles media engine, and anti-spam system. That can cause a Google dance. I see no changes…so I shall wait

Unexpected event comes along our way everyday and we can’t avoid this things. What we need to do is try to understand and go beyond every situation. In that sense, we will going to understand each other. i do believe that google is doing its best to solve all this unexpected event that comes along their way and will serve all the client in the best way that they can’t be.

What’s this Google dance? Early in the week one of my pages had excellent SERP position and then all of a sudden, boom it went to like 300. No major changes so I assume all is well. I’m still a new site and have a PR0. I hope this doesn’t mean my PR will be horrible… Is this the Google dance?

My friend tell me that Google will update PR every 3 month (4 times in a year). But don’t know how to determine the first month updated. My website just made on may 2010. But until now no update for Google PR or backlink for my site. I ever read about Google sandbox that probably my site get into it. But I have no idea how to check it for sure.

Andi,
On average, the toolbar update would happen every 3 months, give or take a couple of weeks. This update is a bit longer and probably for good reasons now that Caffeine is rolled out.

It’s been a while (probably months) since I’m taking note on my blog’s PageRank
I guess it’s because it’s hard to break through the PR3 mark although I once had a PR 4 for a few months, heh

Michael,
PR3 is not that hard and you have been blogging for a long time. I am surprised you’re not at a PR5.

Okay, so does anyone else feel like Google just plain forgot about the PR update? There must be some Googe Executive going “I know I forgot something last month… what was it….” I know Google down plays these PR ratings, but the rest of the SEO world seems to have religion with them. I mainly care about my SERP, but it seems that without a good PR you can get a nice SERP which makes you SOL.

Bill,
They didn’t forget, trust me on that. I am more concerned about SERP, because that’s the most important to me.

I care about SERP the most because at the end of the day that is what really matters, at least to me anyway. However, the PR update really helps with getting ranked for more competitive terms and such or so I am told. I mean my blog has started ranking in Google for long tail keywords, but I would love to see an improvement and if pagerank can help me out with that then I hope the update happens this week. Hey it could even be happening as I post this comment, but yeah anyway thanks for this information as well as the information about the scam sites requesting email info in order to steal your information.

Malik,
I care about SERP more so than PR. It’s SERP that drives most of the traffic here.
Thanks for commenting!

i just joined this conversation. we have a website and we have spent near 100 k usd in seo for a year, and now a competitors website has pr=2 and we have pr=2 also! i cant believe it. this other website has NO content, i think he has been using Blackhat seo. but it seems to not matter to google. they gave them pr-2
We are waiting to the new PR update in july but still now August 4th nothing has happened.

Frank,
I am interested in your views on Google Caffeine. Has it changed your placement in the search engine results page at all or has it helped you? Does it have anything to do with this pagerank update taking place? Maybe you could put up a post about your views about Caffeine. Even from the information I have gathered about it I still have little understanding of how it is affecting everything. From some of what I have heard and seen from your other posts it seems to be negatively affecting search engine results for some at least from what I found it is hurting more people then it is helping.

Malik,
I have noticed an increase in organic traffic since the launch of Caffeine. I will try to get an article out on Caffeine this week that explains the good and bad.

I happen to read another article that suggested that the reason Google is late on PR is that they are now no longer going to support mass PR updates. Due to issues with selling of links, Google may be taking this chance to only provide small updates on a more regular basis. As something with a new site, this is not the news I wanted to hear. What are your thoughts? I cannot believe the first week of August is almost gone and we still don’t have a PR update. It’s making me think this article may be right.

Bill,
There were small updates in June and July, but I haven’t read anything about Google doing more smaller updates to defend against selling links. We will see.

Frank,
Caffeine has changed many search results in my industry by adding local search on more generic searches. “Used Cars” has local in the results which is taking traffic away from the national portals.
Frank Jovine
Aug 9th, 2010
Local search has a lot more emphasis with Caffeine. I think it’s great for people searching for used cars in Chicago. They will see more relevant results.

I like many others am antsy for the PR update, it would just give me piece of mind that the time spent was and is worth it.
Then again we are moving up in the SERP’S so I shouldn’t complain!
I guess only time will tell.
Great blog by the way!
