You should give "SSuite Office - The Fifth Element" a try. It has been recently updated to version 2.1.

It does not need to run on Java or .NET. It is only 57 MB in size after installation. It also has more than 30 very useful applications.

Keeping it running sufficiently.
When I first got my computer I didn’t realize how important having antispyware was to keeping it running sufficiently. However, it didn’t take very long for it to become perfectly clear. If you don’t have a good scan you will have many problems that could be avoided so easily. Search-and-destroy Antispyware is a great option when it comes to scanning for bugs that will help you keep your computer running at its peak efficiency. The antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy which you will find at http://www.Search-and-destroy.com will help give your PC the protection it needs to keep it in good working condition.

Chris,

OO is a basic suite and does do the trick. You're right if you want all the bells and whistles than MS Office 2007 should be your choice.

Right, or you could pirate MS Office. I don't feel bad, because the price they charge is ridiculous.

Thing is, OpenOffice is good for basic needs, but doesn't have near the functionality of MS Office, especially 2007. If all you need is basic stuff, go for OO.

Also, Zoho.com and Google both offer some good free online-based office software.
