Do Not Be Fooled By Auto Warranty Scam
by Frank Jovine on 05/10/2009 in Consumer Tips, Scams & Hoaxes, Security
There’s a new wave of fraud hitting cell phones across the nation. These criminals are trying to pitch bogus car warranties to Americans. Theses calls are being made several times a day to lure in victims.
This spam phone call scam has received attention from New York senator Charles Schumer. The New York senator is now asking the FTC to investigate the calls.
Sen. Charles Schumer says the scam artists are using random call generators allowing them to contact people who are on the “do not call” list.
The calls feature a recorded voice saying that the warranty on your vehicle “is about to expire” — whether you own a vehicle or not.
Schumer said Sunday that he received one of the calls on his cell phone last week. He is asking the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the calls.
Alison Southwick of the Better Business Bureau says that her agency received more than 140,000 complaints about car warranty calls in 2008.
These calls may show up as private or unknown. It’s recommended that you do not answer your phone, unless you’re absolutely sure who is calling.

And that’s not the only phone scam either!
Fortunately, the car warranties scam has not hit the UK…yet, I’m sure it will soon follow as the crooks look for more ways to scam victims!

You people are real paranoid. I bought a warranty over the phone from a legitimate company and my transmission went out on my car 2 mths after i bought the warranty and it only cost me 100 bucks. So i suggest you do your research before you buy anything.
