CES May Lack Surprises

by on 01/07/2010 in Gadgets

I have been to a few Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas. I lived there for over four years and this was the biggest geek fest of them all. This year seems dull with no real big surprise at least that’s my opinion. We all know about the Tablet PC’s, Android phones, E-Readers, etc. So what will make this CES so special?

This is the year of 3D, but I doubt it will catch on or be marketable in 2010. It will start off like Blu-Ray did when it was first announced and released.

CES will be big this year as Companies are starting to recover from the recession and they should be ready to launch some cool tech products, but it may not be until mid year or maybe the 2010 holiday season. Oh well, I can wait.

The thing that I am most excited about is the new Google phone. I heard a lot of buzz about this through my various feeds and I am sure some thing will break at CES.

Google Introduced Nexus One, It’s Rival to the iPhone or that’s what they hope. The Nexus like the iPhone has a touch-screen handset.

Google also said that it would sell the Nexus One, which it called a superphone, exclusively through a new online store.

Consumers will be able to buy the Nexus One for $529 unlocked or for $179 with a two-year calling plan from T-Mobile. Google said that the Nexus One would be available on Verizon Wireless in the United States and on Vodafone in Europe later this year. It said it hoped to add other devices and carriers to the direct-to-consumer program in the future.

Some analysts said they were impressed by the speed of the Nexus One and by some of its capabilities. Google has voice-enabled all text boxes in the device, so a user can, for example, compose an e-mail message by speaking into the phone rather than typing.

Features: 3.7-inch screen and runs the latest version of Google’s Android operating system. At less than a half-inch thick and 4.6 ounces, it is slightly thinner and a tad lighter than the iPhone. It has a removable battery, a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash and can shoot both still images and video.

Have fun in Vegas!

I just got a HTC Droid Eris… and I’m absolutely in love with it! It does everything I have been missing in a phone. Originally, I wanted to go with an iPhone, but I can’t take the drop calls I get with their service, and Verizon has so far proved to be better, both in call reception and 3G speed. And despite what the commercial says, you can check your email while talking on the phone!

CES is a playground for techies, last year some of the bigger names pulled out and opted not to attend, I guess once your the big dog on the block you don’t feel you have to market as strongly.

Giving headway to the smaller companies, with new products. I have never been to CES, but here it’s impressive!
