It’s time to take a Tech Diet and talk about something a little more entertaining. I was browsing around a couple of forums such as ProSportsDaily.com and the Yahoo MLB blog and I was amazed at the hatred and ignorance coming from the Philly fans. The Yankee fans had their fair share of stupidities, but not even close to how these Philly fans acted. Keep in mind that these quotes haven’t been edited and there are grammar and spelling errors.

All comments by me are in bold.

Enjoy!

Below are a collection of quotes from Philly Fans

“The worst part of all this is if we get to the bottom of the 9th still tied this game was OURS against some guy named Coke. I was calling for Feliz to come up big in a spot like that for months, such a shame to blow it the way we did. Please don’t let the Bankees win it on our field Lee. Get its back to NY so we can try to win with Pedro once again and force a game 7.

God I HATE HATE HATEEEEEEEEEEE the Yankees, this one is going to sting for a while.”

Hate is such a strong word

“let’s think of it this way…how sweet would it be to take the sized rings right out of the yankees hands…we can do this…it starts today…we have yet to see the phillies step up and play the game their way…lee single-handedly won game 1…let’s win 5,6,7 as a team for the ages…and in doing so…kung fu punch our fists through the heart of yankee nation!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Wishful thinking!

“What really pissed me off were the hits by Jeter and Damon, I mean, talk about cheap hits.”

In the books, it’s a hit, no matter where it fell – Sorry Charlie!

“I am having a real hard time swallowing this. Where I live, I am surrounded by Yankees fans. Come on Phils. Show us what is rarely done. Come back from from 3-1 and make all these Yankee fans cry.”

Big boys don’t cry

“Realistically, this series looks done. Now, that’s not losing complete hope, but the Yanks paid for an All Star Team and that’s exactly what they have. I had a great two years through ’08 til now. We won the World Series last year and got back to it this year, and how many teams can say they’ve done that in recent history?”

The Yankees did it in the late 90′s. Did you not have TV in Philly?

“The point is the Yanks used money and drugs to get to where they are.”

Here we go again – Roids and payroll win the Series. Give up and take a time out, it’s getting old.

“And God I’d like nothing more now than to win this and stick it down yankee fans throats.”

God can’t help you Philly.

“I’m very interested to see what the Phillies have to say after this loss.”

We are screwed down 3-1. What else could they say?

“Still a better season than what the Mets had to watch. We at least had some ups and not just downs. **** the Mets and **** the Yankees. Give the Phils the Yanks payroll and we would have swept.”

Payroll – Geez, are you guys ever going to get over your loss?

“I’m gonna kill him. I am going to ****ing kill Brad Lidge. That mother ****er. WOW! ****!”

You Philly fans are Violent. Pathetic!

“If this goes to a game 7 we will win.”

It may end in 6 – Sorry Charlie!

Big Mouth Back Fires

On the eve of the World Series, Yankee Stadium was buzzing Tuesday over Rollins’ boast on “The Jay Leno Show” that the Phillies will defeat the Bronx Bombers in five games to win their second consecutive championship.

Quotes from other forums

“Yeah, seriously. There are so many where I live since I live pretty close to Philly and they’ve got to be some of the dumbest people I’ve ever met in my life. I’ve said many times that if they were playing the Red Sox in the World Series, you’d see me rooting for them over the Phillies and I’m a diehard fan of the Bombers. My favorite quote from a fan of the Phillies, “Chase Utley is actually the best active player in the major leagues, without a question. Pujols isn’t that good anyway.” WOW”

“I’m convinced that if the Phillies lose, a lot of their fans will excuse it all on some mistake by an ump or biased by the umps or that the Yankees somehow cheat, etc. bottom line being: The Yankees STOLE the series and the evidence is there that the Phillies are the best team in baseball even though they didn’t get the ring.”

I am a DIEHARD sports fan, but not a fan that takes it to this extreme. I hope you enjoyed this article.

Go Yankees!

I am an avid baseball fan and I remember my dad telling me this story when I was a young kid. I found it amazing and thought that one day I could be a big leaguer, but that never panned out.

On this day in 1951, little person Eddie Gaedel makes his big league baseball debut with the St. Louis Browns, and is walked on four pitches in his one at-bat. Eddie Gaedel, who was 3′ 7″, jumped out of a cake between games then appeared as a pinch hitter in the bottom half of the doubleheader.

Eddie Gaedel was the first — and only — midget (little person) to ever appear in a Major League ballgame.

More facts from the Baseball Almanac

On September 2, 1951, Eddie Gaedel was arrested in Cincinnati for screaming obscenities. He attempted to convince the policeman he was a big league player. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and released on a $25 bond.

When Eddie Gaedel was laid to rest only one former major league ballplayer was in attendance. It was Bob Cain — the pitcher who walked him — who said, “I never even met him but I felt obligated to go. It kind of threw me for a loop that no other baseball people were there.”

“I didn’t know whether to throw the ball underhanded or overhanded to Gaedel,” Bob Cain later told sportswriter Danny Peary. “I just wanted to be careful not to hit him. Dizzy Trout told me later that if he’d been the pitcher, he’d have thrown the ball right between his eyes.”

A little baseball history…

Yahoo Baseball experts without a doubt, are Yankee haters or at least it seems that way. They just dislike the Bronx Bombers in so many ways. In fact, they’re picking the Yankees to finish third in the most competitive division in baseball, American League East.

The Tampa Lucky Rays will be lucky to even finish 2nd and the suspect Red Sox with aging Big Papi may be lucky to even get a wild card spot.

Jeff Passan – Picks Red Sox, Rays and Yankees in that order

Are these guys sleeping together? It sure seems that way. You can see their predictions by going here.

Tim Brown, the biggest idiot of the bunch, has the Yankees only winning 87 games, 2 less than last years total with the additions of C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeira. Are you on dope or are you just a dope?

This is because Alex Rodriguez will not return until May 15th. Do you guys read? Alex missed all of April last year and still had awesome numbers. What hurt the Yankees in 2008 was all the injuries.

Super Bowl Sunday is finally here and the Blogosphere will be buzzing with many stories based around this big game. In fact, the game for one day will be bigger than the Blogosphere.

It was odd to see no new stories posted for today in the tech sector, but the sports page was pumping out everything including the kitchen sink about the Super Bowl.

The two teams come as a surprise for this years Super Bowl, it reminds me of the story about David and Goliath. The Goliath Pittsburgh Steelers go up against the David Arizona Cardinals. The Steelers have won 5 Super Bowls with their last win in Super Bowl 40 in 2006. The Cardinals have not won a Super Bowl and this is their first ever appearance.

The odd makers in Las Vegas have the Steelers as the favorites by 6 1/2, but I am feeling a bit of history in the making. My bet is on the Cardinals behind their veteran quarterback Kurt Warner. If Warner gets chances down field this could make for a great game, but the Steelers defense is going to give Warner different looks to confuse the crafty veteran.

“I think the biggest thing about the Steelers that you’re concerned with, especially from a defensive standpoint, is just all the different looks that they give you,” said quarterback Kurt Warner, whose reclamation story—from two-time league MVP and 2000 Super Bowl champion to retread to star—is unique for the Cardinals. “It’s going to be key for us to understand, to watch film, and to be able to recognize.”

My prediction: Cardinals 24 – Steelers 20

I was born in Queens, NY and like my dad, I became a Yankee fan. It’s sad to see the old stadium go, but I have fond memories of Yankee stadium and all that I have witnessed as a fan.

My memories:

Thurman Munson helped lead his team to three consecutive World Series (1976–78). Thurman Munson was the first captain named by the Yankees since Lou Gehrig. He was an All Star, Gold Glover and he is the only Yankee ever to win both the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards. Munson was killed on August 2, 1979 when he was practicing takeoffs and landings in his new Cessna Citation jet.

Munson inspired me to be a catcher when I was in Little League. I always tried to copy the way he approached the game.

Reggie Jackson’s arrival in 1977 was a difficult one. Billy Martin was not a fan of Jackson, but that all changed when October rolled around and Reggie was named “Mr. October” bringing two championships back to New York. I still remember sitting in the right field seats and people would throw quarters at Reggie and he would just pick them up and put them in his pocket.

Donny baseball – I remember in 1984 attending the last game of the regular season when Don Mattingly and Dave Winfield were battling for the batting title. Donny baseball as most of us called him, collected four hits to Winfield’s one. Donnie Baseball finished with a .343 average, three points higher than Winfield.

These are just a few things that really standout in my mind that I will never forget.

Yankee Records that still stand:

26 World Series Championships

39 American League pennants

Roger Maris 61 home runs in 1961 (Sorry steroid boys- Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, it’s still a record)

Joe DiMaggio’s 56 game hitting streak

Highest batting average in a season by a switch hitter Mickey Mantle .365 (1957)

Goodbye to “The House that Ruth Built”

After choosing the song for the closing ceremony on Sunday they decided that some of the lyrics would have to be omitted or re-written amid concerns that they could be offensive, go figure.

The song was chosen as the centerpiece of an eight-minute segment at the event in Beijing at which the Olympic flag will be officially passed to the London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Organizers of the London 2012 Games commissioned the band’s guitarist Jimmy Page to record a new version of the song to be performed on top of a special red double-decker bus accompanied by Leona Lewis, winner of the ITV reality television show The X Factor, with David Beckham looking on.

But, according to London 2012 officials, Lewis – who grew up in east London close to the Olympic site – requested a change to the song’s second verse because she was worried they would not make sense for a female singer.

In the original, recorded in 1969, frontman Robert Plant sings, “I’m gonna give you every inch of my love”.

But in the version that will be sung tomorrow, however, Lewis changes the words to “every bit” of my love.

The band also agreed to a request from organizers to drop the third verse, which includes similar sexual innuendoes, to fit in to the eight-minute performance.
