Did you know that software developers hide Easter eggs in many popular programs you use today? It’s true; developers create hidden Easter eggs in software that can be easily executed with a short cut or command to reveal them. I guess software developers get bored and this is their way of having a little fun to get through a day of coding. Listed below are some of the most popular Easter eggs you will find in programs you use today.

Software Easter Eggs

Solitaire (XP only)

Can’t seem to win at Solitaire? No problem, you can win by pressing Alt + Shift + 2 at the same time. You win!

Windows 7 God Mode

Right click on your desktop and select choose New and then Folder.

Windows will create a folder called New Folder by default.

Rename this folder to GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

The folder icon will change and inside are all sorts of cool things inside such as administrative tools, backup and restore, bit locker encryption, etc…It’s like having all the tools you need in one place!

Minesweeper (XP only)

How to reveal Mines in the game:

Close all running applications.

Launch Minesweeper.

Type ‘xyzzy’ and hold down the shift key for a second.

Move your cursor over a Minesweeper square and you should notice a tiny white pixel in the top left corner of your desktop. This pixel changes to black when your mouse moves over a mine. In order for this to work, you shouldn’t have a black or white desktop background.

Firefox Easter Eggs

Type about:mozilla in the address bar and read the message.

Type about:credits in the address bar and you will see all who have contributed to Mozilla Firefox.

Type about:robots in the address bar and learn everything about robots.

If you want to find more Easter eggs just go to Google and search.

Happy Easter!

It looks like the favorite soft drink company has interest in Yahoo. It seems like a coincidence being that both the brands sound closely similar and are close in spelling, but why would Yoo-hoo want to get into the search space?

This makes no sense or at least it seems odd, but in this day and age of the dot com’s anything is possible. The press release was posted earlier this morning and it has some investors scratching their heads wondering why a company who makes a soft drink would want to get into the search business.

Yahoo has been struggling trying to keep pace with Google, but it looks like Yahoo may have thrown in the towel. Since Carol Bartz took over as CEO of Yahoo, things haven’t gone to plan and Yahoo continues to lose market share in search.

I wonder if Bartz owns a significant amount of shares in Yoo-hoo. At one time and I am not sure if this is still the case, but Yogi Berra owned a substantial share of Yoo-hoo.

Read the full press release

Yahoo for Yoo-hoo! I am sure there will be a lot of Yoo-hoo ads running on Yahoo.

I don’t want to come off hypocritical as I have used my own blog to vent against a community, but fortunately for me it was a fan website and not my job. Back in 1999, I started blogging so I guess you can say I invented the blog just like Al Gore invented the internet.

On my gaming fan site called DFWorld.com now DFWorld.info, I wrote a month article called “Truth Be Told.” I would write about all the ramblings that went on in the community, tournaments and whatever was worthy of news. In some cases I was kind, but many times ruthless and the fans of DFWorld loved it.

Suspended ... Natalie Munroe. Photo: AP

With today’s technology and social networking, a high school English teacher in Philadelphia was suspended from her job after she blogged that her students were “rude, disengaged and lazy whiners.” Her biggest mistake was sharing her blog article on Facebook with a handful of friends until one student discovered the article and shared it on Facebook and that’s when it went viral.

Here’s an excerpt from the blog

“My students are out of control,” she wrote. “They are rude, disengaged, lazy whiners. They curse, discuss drugs, talk back, argue for grades, complain about everything, fancy themselves entitled to whatever they desire and are just generally annoying.”

If you are going to vent about people at your work place, try doing it one on one with a friend or family member and not on a public domain where there’s a risk of it being seen by your boss or co-workers.

This story is not tech related, but I hope you will find this amusing; at least I did by coincidence.

Last Saturday me and my wife went to Arlington Race Track for the first time to bet on the races. It was a gorgeous afternoon for race day. We arrived late just 19 minutes before the 4th race. This gave us plenty of time to get a couple of drinks and to read the race program.

I told my wife Victoria to pick the name of a horse she liked and will bet $6 to win on it. She opened up the program to the 4th race and the #1 horse was named N.Y. Wise Guy. It was an easy pick being that I was born and lived in New York for 40 years. In addition, I am a huge fan of gangster movies and the history of the mafia. It was a great pick.

N.Y. Wise Guy odds were at 4:1 at post time. If the horse wins we get $24. NY Wise Guy got out of the starting gate fast and to an early lead which he never gave up. He won by 2 ½ lengths and we were delighted to win our very first race at Arlington Race Track.

At the end of the race, N.Y. Wise Guy made an erratic move on his way back to the winner circle which knocked the jockey (Danush Sukie) off the horse. The jockey was on the ground for a little while and ended up being carried off in an ambulance. He recovered and is doing fine.

Was this a coincidence? I turned around to a few gentlemen standing by and I said “It looks like New York Wise Guy Knocks Off Jockey”’. I was trying to be funny and one man responded with – I hope the jockey is OK. The old man behind me responded with – I thought they knock you off when you lose the race? Thank god someone has a clue.

It was a fun day and a story we will never forget.

The internet has its own intervention for those who are addicted to the internet – that makes up a lot of people. This addiction is larger than any, including substance abuse, but will anyone every go to such a place? I think it’s a crazy idea and money we don’t need to spend.

Fall city, WA near Redmond, which is home to many major computer companies is the new home of the first ever Internet Addiction Center.

If you feel that you are neglecting more important things because of the internet, you might need their 45-day detox program. The program is very expensive ($17,000), including a $200 application fee. Your insurance company probably won’t pay for this treatment, in fact they would have a chuckle or two.

I am addicted, but I am not spending that kind of cash for someone to isolate me in a room with no computer for X amount of days. I just find this whole idea amusing and I am sure many of you will as well.

What’s next, their own reality show?

If you really need this Internet Addiction Recovery Program than click here.

It’s not too often that I rant, but this post is just what the doctor ordered. I will try to keep this at a PG-13 rating, but I can’t make any promises as I am upset at what I read in the news yesterday.

When I was a kid I despised doing homework and like some kids the excuses were plenty. In fact I used the excuse once that my dog ate my homework. This is not to far from the truth as some dogs like the sound of paper crinkling. But a cat downloading child pornography takes the cake!

A Florida man arrested for downloading child pornography on his computer told Sheriff’s deputies that it was his cat, not him, who downloaded the child porn. (Give me a freaking break!)

Keith Griffin of Jensen Beach, Florida, was arrested and charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography after detective found more than 1,000 child pornographic images on his computer.

The problem I have with this story is that authorities found over 1000 child pornographic images. Who are you crapping Keith? You obviously have a mental issue and an obsession with children which is sick, very sick. What’s next? My Cockatoo hacked into some ones bank account.

This man needs a lesson and a hard one at that. The punishment, if it was me dealing it out, would be castration, point blank! No appeal process, no retrial, no nothing. Get your balls on the cutting block and take it like a man.

We live in a world with a lot of sick and deranged people who are possessed over the sickest things. A child should be protected, mentored and cared for and not exploited.

I would love to hear comments about this story.

I am not a prude, but I have noticed there are a lot of sexy profiles on Twitter. We all know Sex sells and it drives more interest than anything else on the internet. I have noticed that many of these sexy profiles are store fronts to drive traffic to their personal web pages where visitors get a portfolio of sexy photos.

The bait is rather amusing; the so called Twitter member reveals just enough to make any visitor, including myself, to click on the link they’re serving up. The real money maker is that if you want to see even more sexy and revealing photos, become a member for only $$ per month.

Here are a few tweets from these sexy profiles;

Maybe I should go live and show the world how sexy I look when I wake up.

I be doing everyone I can and the fun ones lots and lots of times!!!!

hey what a exhausting clubbin trip check out my pics here http://tinyurl.com/knfcbp careful im nsfw sexy.

Hello sexy people. I am feeling %^&*#

I think you get the point. Many of these Twitter profiles do have a decent following, go figure, sex sells. I wonder how many of these accounts are posers? I am sure some of these sexy ladies are really men trying to lure in potential customers.

Twitter + Sex = Money

I have answered more than a 1000 questions and I am currently at level 4. What I find most entertaining is the questions some people ask. It’s scary to know that people like this roam the earth.

Here’s one that I thought was bizarre and not to smart. Why would you even think about given your phone number to someone you don’t know?

There’s fool born everyday and this one is no exception.

It’s apparent that her boyfriend is cheating on her. I love the part about the cream lotion, this made me laugh.

It’s amazing don’t you think? These people are technically challenged and can be easily fooled.
