Breast Feeding Social Networks
by Frank Jovine on 04/23/2009 in Community, Internet
Serving up articles with friends and fans can be time consuming; in fact, it takes a good chunk out of my day. I am one that always reciprocates, but to what extent? I get a lot of shouts from Digg, about 30 a day, from 20 unique friends. You would think that each article you share could fetch 20 Diggs, not even close!
Many Social Networks are lopsided with spammers and greed. These are people who are self promoting maniacs out for themselves. I suggest we build a fence around Wyoming, with one computer, and let them all fight over it. This should weed out the maniac social morons.
As in life, you know who your real friends are. It’s important to reciprocate and help your friends who truly care. The concept of Social Networks is to share interesting articles with others and improve your referral traffic. The greatest reward, is converting that same traffic into loyal fans who will visit your blog daily.
If you ever need to create a feeding frenzy, send your latest blog through the StumbleUpon toolbar or Twitter. I am sure we can make some noise for you!

I agree… I have always thought of social networking as a place where there should be a balance between giving and taking. But like you said, you could have hundreds of friends, receive hundreds of requests for promotion, and only get maybe 50% (if you’re lucky) of those to promote your articles. A lot are just in it for themselves, but I think the people who reciprocate get more quality feedback and personal promotion than the rest.

Kristi,
There are many that do the right thing, but they are the minority unfortunately.

I don’t get what any of this has to do with breastfeeding.

It’s a figure of speech. I am stating that I help everyone on social networks that shares, but not always getting any returns.

Too bad we have computers in Wyoming. Oh and we also know how to use Google alerts. What’s unfortunate is anyone can blog..

Maybe I am too naive, but I believe social networking eventually will became a good place find a valuable contents. Now there are quite many spammers out there but when more and more people participate spammers can not win against the number of the true voting. Besides social networking is still young and immature in certain areas, with the passage of time it will find ways to fight the spammers otherwise it can not survive.

The article makes it clear that it only works if your articles are being shared.
