Bing Outperforms with a Pagerank 9

by Frank Jovine on 06/26/2009 in SEO

Many SEO folks estimated that Bing would move to a PR 5 or PR 7 on the next Google toolbar update. That update began on June 23rd, only 27 days from the last Google Pagerank update.

Just like the stock market, the street predicted wrong and Bing outperformed.

The reason that Bing received a PR 9 is because www.live.com has been 301 redirected to www.bing.com. That’s a lot of inbound links to inherit since the launch. If live.com had not been redirected to bing.com, their Pagerank would have been different and maybe to what was originally predicted by the SEO mainstream.

This was genius on Microsoft’s part for designing a new skin on basically an old engine. Bing has made many improvements over its (Model-T) Live.com, and they could make a run at Google. I am sure Google fans will disagree and argue that this is just another fad that will wear off in the next year or so. I really think that Bing will grab more market share over the next year and challenge Google.

bing-google

Its competition that makes a company better and in turn, that helps all of us. One brand is not what we want.

I know there are many loyal fans of Google and especially SEO Professionals. I believe that many SEO Pros have learned a lot about how Google works from a SEO perspective, but they may be hesitate to learn something new. I say change is a good thing and learning is even better.

Bada-Bing or should I say Bing, Bing, Bing ricochet rabbit!

Seems like since Bing is Google’s competitor, they might somehow not receive such a high rating. At least the algorithm is honest. :)
