Beware of Phishing Dating Sites

by on 09/03/2010 in Scams & Hoaxes, Security

Phishing is the most popular form of fraud that aims to dupe victims into believing they are at a trusted Web site. If you read any of the Yahoo articles which allow comments, you will see what appears to be a spam ring trying to promote two dating sites. These sites are;

AgeLover.com
AgeGapSingles.com

Example Spam Message

Phishing Websites

Both sites are dangerous to visit as they are phishing websites designed to steal personal information from users. Many phishing websites sell personal information to unethical marketing companies and or use the information for other fraudulent activity.

These websites are using spam bots on other forums to get you to the site.

If you receive an email or a message on any social network such as Facebook or Twitter about these two phishing websites, don’t click on any links.

If you are looking for a reputable online dating service, you should try match.com or eharmony.com.

Both AgeLover.com and GapSingles.com are now rated dangerous by the Web of Trust Community at mywot.com.

To protect yourself further, I highly recommend downloading the WOT (Web of Trust) add-on for IE and/or Firefox. The WOT add-on warns you about risky sites before you click.
