Are You Feeling No Love?

by Frank Jovine on 04/04/2009 in Social Networking

We all love to blog and we hope our hard work will return dividends, but it may not be as fast as you like.

What are you babbling about?

I am talking about the millions of bloggers who have tried every social network like all the beer in a distributor. It has nothing to do with how many Social Networks you belong to, but how dedicated and loyal you’re to your friends and fans.

In order to make a difference, you need to narrow your focus on 2 or 3 social networks. I am a member of StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit and I am a member of WOT (Web of Trust) – www.mywot.com. The WOT community is a tech savvy group that shares and reports dangerous websites. You can find out more by visiting their site.

Social Networks are great traffic drivers, but not so good in building sustain relationships or trust. It’s your reputation that really drives interest and builds a fan following. What do I mean? You should join a community forum in your niche that has a very large membership and at any given time they have more than 500 visitors browsing through the forums. A forum is a great way to build fans and friends through trust worthy posts based on your expertise.

I belong to a couple of forums that get a ton of traffic. These forums are tech related and that’s what I am passionate about.

I have written many blogs about SEO and how to drive web traffic to your blog. If you would like to read those articles, please visit my category page at http://www.techjaws.com/category/search-engine-optimization/.

It’s important to keep in contact with your friends and fans on weekly bases or more often. It’s best to also communicate about general things and not always to promote your latest blog post.

The most effective way to communicate is through email, newsletters, or a shout on your social network.

Send me your latest blog and will show you some love!

I have been using forums for a long time for a few other business ventures and they are excellent for building relationships. Excellent tip and article.

With any social network, the big thing is making sure the people in the community share the same interest. If over half the network is techies, and you have a site for food recipes, you are not going to get very far, no matter how many instant friends you gain.

Yes! I usually try to stay within my niche, but I do have many other interests as well.

      Thank you

There are way to many to solely put your efforts into them. I have picked stumble as one, and was a big fan of blog catalog, but sort of let it go.

I don’t get reddit and twitter yet.. can you help me?

I agree with narrowing focus to three social networks. I have chosen Digg and SU. But I am very very active on Digg and that is my primary social networking site.
And here is one very important advice for Digg users: Never let other members realize that you are just promoting your blog. Instead, digg and help others as much as you can, and then you can submit some posts, but not yours (yet). After building strong network, you can submit your posts but ONLY the best ones. Don’t over do it.

This will help you very much if you do it properly.

You can add me to friends if you like:

    Thanks for great info Frank!

SU is the best when it comes to traffic, but Twitter is getting very popular.
