I agree with everyone here that uses Audacity...when I worked at a radio station in Detroit, I used Audacity at home because as one DJ told me, it mimics the real audio recording software that is used at radio stations. .-= Teasastips´s last blog ..A Make Money Business Opportunity =-.

I’ve tried Audacity for my first podcast and it was pretty easy to use and configured. It’s still great to know there are other options as well. Just an alternative in case Audacity didn’t work out. ^^ Always glad to have back ups.

I have Audacity, it has a setting for recording in stereo but I haven’t figured out a way to open an existing stereo file and edit it. Of course, it could easily be a case of user ignorance.

All of these will preserve the quality and provide stereo. If you like, try the Audacity.

Amazing! I was just looking for the right software for audio editing. Looks like I have plenty to choose from. Thanks Frank. Specifically, I want to be able to take clips from music files without losing the “stereo.” Any suggestions.

Good post and these are some great ideas. One of the things I found with Audacity is that there really isn’t a ton of training to go along with it (especially in the music recording domain). Perhaps a excellent follow up to this post would “Which Audio Program Offers the Best Training and Support?” (or whatever)

I imagine the training and support could come from the developers OR other online sources(YouTube, blogs, ebooks, forums, etc).
