Misleading Applications continue to rise and here’s another one you should be aware of. LiveAntispy is a misleading application that reports false scan alerts. Googlebot and a Cup of Coffee

I was sitting at my computer early in the morning like I do everyday, but this day I had company. The Googlebot appeared, but not just one, but many. I was curious to see what content it was gobbling up, and than it stared me right in the face, it was an article I just published. I was very impressed on how fast the Googlebot appeared. I am guessing the Googlebot is a Starbucks fan. If you own a forum such as VBulletin you can actually see when the Googlebot visits by going to the ‘What’s Going On’ page and clicking on the ‘Currently Active Users’. Once you are there and you have admin access, you can click on the Guest IP to see where the IP resolves to. The Googlebot IP reads like this – crawl-66-249-65-188.googlebot.com. If you have a WordPress blog, you can also check when the Googlebot visits by downloading StatPress. This plugin collects information about visitors, spiders, search keywords, feeds, browsers etc. Download StatPress here. Googlebot is the search bot software used by Google, which collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for the Google search engine. Googlebot thank you for joining me for a cup of...

How to Choose the Right Color Scheme for Your Website

Choosing the right color scheme for you new website is a lot harder than choosing clothes that match. The difference between matching colors for clothing and your color scheme for your website is that the website will be wearing the same colors for a long time. Many people make the mistake of using the wrong color schemes that don’t match. You may think that black and yellow or red and yellow go well, but not in all cases, maybe in clothing, but not for most web designs. It’s important that you select the correct color scheme for your design. When selecting a color scheme measure it by percentage. What I mean by percentage is what color will be most dominate to least dominate in your design. Let’s break it down Website Background = 50% Header and Footer = 25% Page Background and Side Bars = 25% The most common color here is going to be the website background. This color makes up a majority of the website. An example of a color scheme All the colors in the example flow well together and are in the same family. I like these colors for a gaming site. There’s a really cool online tool called ‘Color Scheme Designer‘. This tool helps take all the guess work out of selecting the correct color scheme for your new design. Color Scheme Designer provides...

The Queen of Conservatives

It’s healthy now and then to take a look at the lunatic fringe…sometimes it even provides some comic relief. With that I’d like to introduce the latest book by Ann Coulter: “Guilty”. Don’t get me wrong…I’m a conservative myself, but Coulter is WAYYYYY out there…”ultra-conservative”, or “far-right”, or even the “lunatic fringe” (though I suspect Ms. Coulter would disagree with that last characterization). Even when she’s being abrasive (which is often), her writing style is witty and lively…though she has been accused of being tasteless, and rightly so some times (or least in my opinion). While I do agree with some of her views, there are some that are just too much for even a mainstream conservative to take. For example, she defends “Tail Gunner Joe” McCarthy and the 1950’s HUAC witch hunt for communists. That, to me, was much akin to FDR’s consignment of the Japanese-Americans to “camps”…both were an abominable chapter in American history. She also takes cheap shots at JFK. While some of it may be true, for example the notion that he was a philanderer and had an affair with Marilyn Monroe and a mobster’s girlfriend, he was nevertheless a hero of my youth, and as such is “off limits” for pot-shots. As most can remember where they were on 9/11, I can remember where I was when he was assassinated – in high school...
